Report on County Council Matters to North Nibley Parish Council

3rd February 2020

County Council Cabinet Meeting 29th January

I was unable to attend this meeting as I am a representative at South West Councils which was holding a meeting in Taunton that day, this having been delayed by the General Election.

At the Cabinet meeting the latest version of the budget was agreed. This will now be tabled at the County Council meeting on 12th February. The latest version proposes £20k Highways Local funding per councillor rather than the £10k in the earlier draft. The extra is to be found from “efficiency savings”. I mentioned last month that last year we managed to get it raised to £25k at the budget meeting.

The proposed revenue budget remains unchanged at £468.183 million and results in a Band D Council Tax of £1,345.32 – an increase of £51.62 per annum over the current year.

Highway Verge at 1 & 2 Millend

The issue of the position of the fence erected here was raised with me by Ken Brown. I took it up with Paul Helbrow. Paul supplied a map and in a detailed email concluded: subject to further site visits and investigations, it would appear the newly erected fence (and barbed wire) is on highway verge or at the very least erected on the wrong side of the boundary hedge. I will continue to liaise with SDC planning enforcement over this matter as well as contacting the landowner once all facts have been established. “
